The training will be Virtual on Zoom on 8/20/25 from 11:00am to 1:00pm. Please note that this is not a NASP CPD event, but participants will receive a certificate of attendance to use towards continuing education certification needs.

    Objectives:

-Understand the Landscape of School Attendance Problems: Participants will be able to distinguish between the four key school attendance issues– with a deeper dive into the unique challenges of school avoidance.

-Recognize the Ripple Effect of School Avoidance: Participants will examine the hidden roadblocks that derail progress, revealing how untreated school avoidance undermines individual student success, family stability, educator morale, school culture, graduation rates, enrollment figures, and the right to a Free, Appropriate Public Education (FAPE).

-Explore MTSS-Aligned Strategies to Prevent and Address School Avoidance: Participants will learn practical, evidence-based strategies aligned with MTSS Tiers 1, 2, and 3 to reduce school avoidance across a continuum of student needs. -Empathize with Parent and Student Experiences: Participants will gain insights into the lived experiences of school-avoidant students and their families—including emotional distress, stigmatization, and systemic barriers—so they can respond with empathy and strategic support.

-Identify Pathways for Intervention and Collaboration: Participants will learn how to initiate productive partnerships with caregivers, mental health professionals, and school teams to create multi-tiered interventions that address the root causes of school avoidance and strengthen long-term attendance outcomes.

The training is hosted by Western Region, any questions please reach-out to Jennifer Elliott at jennifer.elliott@aasp-az.org.
