In this presentation, professional counseling staff from the Southwest Family Advocacy Center will discuss strategies and techniques utilized in multiple school therapeutic situations including, but not limited to: Creating a Safe Environment for Care; Trauma Informed Care; Support & Stabilization; Immediate Crisis Counseling and Psychological First Aid; and Coping with Stress & Building Stress Management Skills. This presentation is applicable to all educators of elementary and high school aged students, particularly those providing counseling support and/or teachers/staff of self-contained or special day school services.

 

Workshop Objectives:

1) Define three components necessary to create a safe therapeutic setting. 

2) Present three Psychological First Aid techniques including grounding.  

3) Present three coping skills students can learn as they process stress/decision making.

4) Present three principles or techniques of Trauma Informed Care.
